การสอบเกรด การสอบที่เป็นขั้นตอนเหมาะสำหรับผู้เรียนทุกระดับตั้งแต่เริ่มต้นถึงระดับสูง เน้นการฝึกทักษะอย่างครบถ้วน โดยนอกจากการบรรเลงเพลงแล้ว ยังจะต้องทำแบบทดสอบทักษะอื่น ๆ อาทิ การฟัง การอ่านโน้ต ฯลฯ ซึ่งเป็นการสร้างเสริม
- เป็นการสอบที่เป็นที่นิยมมากที่สุดสำหรับผู้ที่่เรียนดนตรีทั่วไป
- เกรด Initial (เกรดเริ่มต้น) – เกรด 8
- สอบบรรเลงหรือขับร้องบทเพลงตามรายชื่อที่กำหนด
- สอบเทคนิค อาทิ สเกล แบบฝึกหัด
- เลือกสอบทักษะเสริมที่ถนัด
- สอบปฏิบัติเดี่ยว ตัวต่อตัว กับอาจารย์ผู้สอบจาก Trinity College London
- ใบประกาศนียบัตรได้รับการรับรองในระบบ Ofqual และ UCAS
ระดับการสอบ
การสอบแบ่งตามระดับการเรียนรู้ (Levels of Achievement) ได้แก่ ระดับเริ่มต้น ระดับพื้นฐาน ระดับกลาง และระดับสูง โดยมีการสอบทั้งหมด 9 ระดับ ตั้งแต่ Initial ถึงเกรด 8 ในแต่ละระดับมีอข้อกำหนดที่แตกต่างกัน อาทิเช่น ระดับเริ่มต้น เน้นเพียงให้นักเรียนมีความรู้และทักษะพื้นฐานทางดนตรี แต่เมื่อถึงระดับกลางและระดับสูงขึ้นไป การให้คะแนนจะขึ้นอยู่กับความสามารถในการสื่อสารอารมณ์และตีความบทเพลงได้อย่างถูกต้องอีกด้วย
การสอบเกรด ส่วนใหญ่จะสามารถเริ่มสอบระดับ Initial ได้หลังเริ่มเรียนเครื่องดนตรีแต่ละชนิดประมาณ 1-2 ปี และสามารถใช้การสอบเป็นเครื่องมือวัดระดับพัฒนาการได้อย่างต่อเนื่องไปจนถึงเกรด 8 โดยระหว่างนั้นอาจจะเลือกสอบ ใบประกาศนียบัตรการแสดง ควบคู่ไปด้วยหากต้องการฝึกฝนทักษะการแสดงดนตรีเพิ่มเติม เมื่อเสร็จสิ้นระดับเกรด 8 ผู้ที่ต้องการเรียนดนตรีอย่างจริงจังอาจเลือกจะสอบต่อในระดับปริญญา (Diplomas) ได้
โครงสร้างการสอบ
การสอบแต่ละเครื่องดนตรีจะมีโครงสร้างใกล้เคียงกัน โดยสามารถดูรายละเอียดได้จากในคู่มือการสอบ ซึ่งสามารถดาวน์โหลดได้หรือติดต่อรับเล่มได้โดยไม่มีค่าใช้จ่ายจากทางศูนย์สอบกรุงเทพฯ
โดยส่วนใหญ่แล้วการสอบจะเป็นดังนี้

เลือก 3 เพลงจากหนังสือสอบของ Trinity College London หรือรายชื่อเพลงเพิ่มเติมตามที่กำหนด
คะแนนเพลงละ 22 คะแนน วัดจาก
- ความถูกต้องคล่องแคล่ว (7 คะแนน)
- ความสามารถทางเทคนิค (7 คะแนน)
- การตีความและสื่อสารอารมณ์ (8 คะแนน)
เทคนิค
เล่นสเกล อาร์เพจจิโอ หรือแบบฝึกหัดอื่น ๆ ตามที่กำหนดในแต่ละเกรด
คะแนนรวม 14 คะแนน
เแบบทดสอบเสริม
เลือกทำแบบทดสอบเสริมตามที่ตนเองถนัด ข้อละ 10 คะแนน
ระดับ Initial - เกรด 5 เลือกทำทักษะเสริม 2 ข้อ โดยเลือกจาก

การให้คะแนน
การให้คะแนนของการสอบเกรด จะแยกให้คะแนนตามแต่ละส่วน ได้แก่ เพลงสอบ เทคนิค และทักษะเสริม เป็นคะแนนเต็มทั้งหมด 100 คะแนน โดยคะแนนส่วนต่าง ๆ แบ่งดังนี้
Pass: คะแนนรวม 60 คะแนนขึ้นไป ถือว่าสอบผ่าน
Merit: คะแนนรวม 75 คะแนนขึ้นไป ถือเป็นเกียรตินิยมอันดับ 2
Distinction: คะแนนรวม 87 คะแนนขึ้นไป ถือเป็นเกียรตินิยมอันดับ 1
ผู้สอบทุกคนจะได้รับใบคะแนน (Report Form) ที่เขียนโดยอาจารย์ผู้สอบ ซึ่งจะมีคำอธิบายคะแนนส่วนต่าง ๆ อย่างชัดเจน ผู้สอบที่สอบผ่านทุกคนจะได้รับใบประกาศนียบัตร (Certificate) จากประเทศอังกฤษ ซึ่งจะระบุชื่อผู้สอบและระดับเกรดที่สอบผ่าน โดยหากได้เกียรตินิยมจะมีข้อความระบุไว้ในใบประกาศนียบัตรด้วย

Available Levels
Exams are available from Grade Initial to Grade 8, and are divided into different levels of achievements
Most learners are ready for Grade Initial after about 1-2 years of lessons in a particular instrument. The grades are structured to ensure a step-by-step approach that will guide learners up to advanced levels. Learners wishing to develop their skills in performance may choose to also take Certificate Exams as part of their music education. Advanced learners may wish to pursue further achievements in Diploma Exams.
Exam Structure
Details of the requirements for each grade in each subject can be found in our Syllabuses. Hard copies are also available free of charge from the centre.
Most grade exams follow this structure:

Perform 3 pieces chosen from the relevant Trinity College London exam pieces book or the alternative list.
Each piece is awarded out of 22 marks:
- Notational accuracy and fluency (7 marks)
- Technical facility (7 marks)
- Communication and interpretation (8 marks)
Technical work
Candidates perform the relevant scales, arpeggios and technical work as specified in each grade.
Technical work is awarded out of 14 marks.
Supporting Tests
Candidates complete two supporting tests in the exam, each is awarded out of 10 marks.
For Grade Initial - Grade 5 two tests are chosen from:
- Aural Test
- Sight Reading
- Improvisation
- Musical Knowledge
For Grades 6-8, Sight Reading is compulsory. Choose one test between:
- Aural Test
- Improvisation

Marking Scheme
A summary of marks for each section of the exam is as follows:
Pass: 60 marks and above
Merit: 75 marks and above
Distinction: 87 marks and above
Every candidate will receive a Report Form written by the examiner, with marks and comments about their performance in the exam. Mark tiers of Merit or Distinction are also printed on the certificate.
Results and Certificates
The Report Form is usually available for pick-up two weeks after the exam date. In case of a pass and above, a certificate will be sent from Trinity College London, United Kingdom, and is usually ready for pick-up 6-8 weeks after the exam date.
